Children's auditions open for Bigfork's 'Friday Knight Fever'

| February 16, 2017 4:00 AM

The Bigfork Playhouse Children’s Theater invites students in grades five through 12 to audition, Tuesday, Feb. 21, for the cast of the retro musical “Friday Knight Fever.”

“Friday Knight Fever,” a musical comedy tribute to the 1970s, spoofs a time when mood rings and magic eight balls revealed the wisdom of the world, when women’s liberation empowered a new generation and when disco music reigned. The music captures the essence of this unique era to create a musical loaded with fun and energy.

Characters include the students of Culpepper High, the chess club, some “bad” kids that have names resembling the “Brady Bunch,” a dysfunctional school administration, some jewel thieves and a series of issues to resolve before the big disco dance on Friday night, named in honor of their school mascot: The Knight.

Auditions will be held at the Bigfork Playhouse Children’s Theatre Afterschool Center (833 Grand Drive) on Feb. 21 from 4 to 6 p.m. for fifth through seventh grades, and from 6 to 8 p.m. for grades eight through 12.

This production calls for a large cast; over 15 feature roles with a medium size chorus. It costs nothing to audition, however there is a $40 participation fee to be a part of the show if cast.

Auditioners are asked to prepare a 30-second monologue or short selection from another play or book (several will also be available at the audition) and plan to learn and sing something for at the audition. Actors should wear comfortable shoes as there will be moving around the stage.

The theater also needs help with the technical parts — building sets, props, costumes, lights and sound. Parental and student assistance is welcome.
