Roughly 120 judges and other volunteers are needed to help with the Flathead County Science Fair in March.

The science fair is scheduled March 9 in the Flathead County Fairgrounds Expo Building and will feature projects from third- through 12th-grades in the categories of biological, physical, engineering and demonstration.

Volunteers may sign up online. Judges may provide category and grade-level preferences. Judges will be assigned to evaluate projects in one category and grade level, said organizer Tom Ritzdorf.

Judges are asked to arrive at 8:30 a.m. and will be done by noon. A free continental breakfast and lunch will be provided to judges.

The science fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Up to 200 projects have been entered in past years and typically are the top projects from individual school or home-school science fairs.

Students from schools that do not hold science fairs may still enter the county fair by registering online.

Often, top projects from the county science fair go on to present at the state science fair, which will be held at the University of Montana on March 27 where an estimated $15,000 in prizes will be awarded.
