Felony charges considered in animal cruelty case

A 70-year-old Creston woman could be facing felony and misdemeanor cruelty to animal charges after 37 dogs were seized from her property.
According to a Thursday press statement from Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry, the animal cruelty investigation was initiated Feb. 14 for a residence reported to have a large number of poorly cared for dogs.
Flathead County deputies and Flathead County Animal Control found 21 dogs at the residence. Curry commented that the conditions in the home were among the worst deputies and animal control officers had ever seen, and that many of the animals were in poor health.
An additional 16 dogs were located in the woman’s vehicle, Curry added.
All the dogs were transported to the Flathead County Animal Shelter for care. All the animals are being held and are receiving veterinary treatment.
Curry said the case remains under investigation pending filing of charges by the Flathead County Attorney’s Office.
Until the case is resolved, the dogs can’t go home or be adopted.
