Montana Pond Hockey Classic organizers are getting ahead of the curve.

The Kalispell City Council on Tuesday will vote on a request to serve alcohol at the hockey tournament’s backup location at Woodland Park. The event is currently planned for Foys Lake on Jan. 20-22, but Woodland Park is set as plan B.

In the last two years, warm weather has forced the event from the lake and into Woodland Park. Last year, temperatures deterred the tournament from taking place at the park, although 60 teams decided to defer their registration to the 2017 event.

If the permit is approved, Tamarack Alehouse and Grill will serve alcohol in a designated area from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Jan. 20 and 21, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan. 22.

The council will also hear a request from Lofts at Ashley LLC for a conditional-use permit for a 55-unit apartment project planned for South Kalispell. The council last month approved the second reading to rezone the property along Airport Road for multi-family apartments.

The council will also vote to annex a 24.88 parcel into the city and rezone the property to allow School District No. 5 to develop the new elementary school passed by voters in October. The property is also located on Airport Road, near the 2100 block.

The council on Tuesday will also vote on a request from Lucero Roybal Investments, LCC to subdivide its .20-acre property northeast of First Avenue East and First Street East. Both properties are currently zoned for B-4, containing an auto body shop and a parking lot. The request does not include information on future plans for the lot.

The council meeting begins at 7 Tuesday night, 201 First Avenue East. The meeting moved from the usual Monday time because of the New Year’s holiday.
