A second water main in a west Kalispell neighborhood snapped due to cold Wednesday weather.

About 12 hours after Kalispell Public Works finished sealing up a water-main break, another burst near Second Avenue West and 10th Street in the middle of the road.

“It was kind of deja vu-ish,” Public Works Director Suzie Turner said. “But the crews did a great job and got it wrapped up.”

Turner said crews finished closing up the road where they had repaired the break sometime Wednesday afternoon.

Temperatures dipped well below zero Tuesday, causing the first break at Fourth Avenue West and 10th Street, just two blocks away from the second break.

“We typically have breaks every year,” Turner said. “It’s just the frost getting driven down and getting the ground to shift by those pipes.”

Turner said the intersections are still pretty icy and recommends drivers be careful when driving in the area. Crews will address the ice in the coming days after they finish restocking chips and salt for the storms in the forecast next week.
