Whitefish slips by Flathead in OT

Whitefish outscored Flathead 9-6 in overtime to edge a 49-46 victory on Friday in a nonconference boys basketball game at Flathead High School.

The Bulldogs (2-4) were able to lock down on defense in the extra session to get the win, evening the series between the teams this season after Flathead won a 52-51 nail-biter earlier in Whitefish.

Sawyer Silliker had 20 points and 11 rebounds and Derek Kastella tallied 17 points for Whitefish, which used an 11-2 run in the first quarter to take an early advantage. Flathead (4-4) fought back to exchange the lead a handful of times before sending the game to overtime.

Wyatt Potter had a team-high 13 points for Flathead, including three 3-pointers. Tyler Johnson added 11 points for the Braves.

Bigfork 72, Troy 30

BIGFORK — The Bigfork boys outscored Troy 22-3 out of the halftime break to pull away in a District 7B rout.

The Vikings (3-0 7B, 7-1 overall) built a 32-19 lead at halftime and turned up the pressure in the second half, leading 54-22 entering the fourth quarter.

Beau Santistevan had 15 points and 10 rebounds and Anders Epperly had 10 points and 10 assists to post double-doubles for Bigfork. Logan Taylor also scored 15 points for the Vikings.

Dillon Savage scored 12 points to lead Troy.

LIBBY — Erik Lauer scored nine of his team-high 15 points in the second half to guide Libby past Columbia Falls in a nonconference game.

Libby, up 24-14 at the half, also had Ryggs Johnston in double-figure scoring with 10 points.

Matthew Morrison led Columbia Falls, and all scorers, with 18 points.

Isaac Neumann with 19 points and eight rebounds and Nicholas Sulzbacher, who contributed 15 points off of the bench, helped Stillwater Christian escape with a nonconference victory over visiting North Idaho.

Stillwater rallied in the second half, outscoring North Idaho 36-25.

Austin Brown added 12 points for Stillwater (6-1).

Dillon Walker scored 20 points to power North Idaho.

WHITEFISH — Flathead ran out to a 22-6 lead in the first quarter in a rout of Whitefish in a nonconference game.

Tiana Johnson led all scorers with 21 points as the Bravettes (5-3) built an early lead that kept growing. Kelsey Gillespie added 11 points.

Libby Nagler and Diana Vasquez each scored five points to lead Whitefish (0-6).

BIGFORK — Troy kept its composure down the stretch, handing Bigfork its first District 7B conference loss of the season.

Allie Coldwell scored 29 points and the Trojans (2-1 7B, 3-1 overall) took advantage of Bigfork’s shaky free-throw shooting down the stretch to edge the victory.

Haile Norred led Bigfork (2-1, 4-4) with 17 points.

LIBBY — Sydney Hovde led a balanced attack with 12 points as Columbia Falls cruised by Libby in a nonconfernce contest.

Hannah Gedlaman and Cydney Finberg tallied 10 points each for the victors while Kiara Burlage and Peyton Kehr both had nine.

Shannon Reny led Libby in scoring with nine points.

Dori Smith accounted for nearly half of Stillwater’s scoring in a nonconference victory over visting North Idaho.

Smith finished with 15 points to lead all scorers. She also had 15 rebounds.

Lulu Newmann and Selah Neumann had eight rebounds each for Stillwater (5-2).

On Thursday in nonconference action, Smith tallied 16 points and Helen Hashley added 14 as Stillwater lost to the Flathead JV.

Sara Clarin led Flathead with 21 points. Clara Vandenbosch was next with 17 and Madison Walter added 12.
