Babcock, Gibson, Dye earn firsts at swim meet
Colton Babcock of Columbia Falls was a double winner at the Kalispell Invitational swim meet on Saturday at The Summit.
Babcock had winning times in the 50 (22.07) and 500 (4:49.85) freestyle events.
Olivia Gibson of Glacier finished first in the 100 butterfly (1:03.48). She was also third in the 50 freestyle.
Whitefish’s Caroline Dye had the winning time in the 50 freestyle (25.75) and was third in the 100 backstroke. Whitefish’s Preston Ring was second in the 100 freestyle.
On the team front, Missoula Hellgate easily won the boys and girls titles with 598 and 757 1/2 scores, respectively. The Glacier boys and girls finished second with 235 and 308 totals.
Eight teams were in attendance.
Glacier’s Anthony Clason was second in the 100 breaststroke and third in the 200 individual medley. Nate Burnham was second in the 50 and 500 freestyle.
Placing third was Zayne Friar of Columbia Falls in the 200 freestyle.
“A ton of best times for both teams,” Flathead/Glacier coach David Lillard said.
“This was a cut meet. If our swimmers made one state time they could continue on for the next couple weeks.”
Lillard said Flathead had 25 best times. Posting those were:

“I was really impressed with the swims,” Lillard said for both teams.
“They haven’t swam (competitively) since the second Saturday in December. They have been training for three, four weeks and have really been working hard. I saw huge improvement.”
