Wolfpack wears out Post Falls

Jaxen Hashley scored 21 points and hauled in 17 rebounds in Glacier’s 45-40 nonconference boys basketball victory against visiting Post Falls (Idaho) on Saturday.

The Wolfpack (5-1) shut down Post Falls (7-2), outscoring the Trojans 14-5 in the second quarter, maintaining that narrow lead throughout a close second half.

“I thought our (defense) was great tonight,” Glacier coach Mark Harkins said.

“We found their shooters and were able to get out and challenge them.”

Jake Pfenning led Post Falls with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

WHITEFISH — Whitefish scored 23 points in the first quarter but couldn’t keep pace in a nonconference shootout with Hamilton.

“It was a barnburner,” Whitefish coach Sean Duff said. “It was a track meet, we were going back and forth. They have so many athletes that can shoot the ball, and of course, we do too.”

Whitefish saw an 11-point lead dwindle to four at halftime and entered the fourth quarter tied at 57-57. Hamilton outpaced the Bulldogs in the final quarter 23-13.

“We ran out of gas,” Duff said.

Derek Kastella had a game-high 24 points and Sawyer Silliker had 23 points for Whitefish (2-5).

Carter Kearns and Tanner Goligoski each had 18 points for Hamilton (8-0).

POLSON — Polson saw four player reach double digit scoring in a Northwest A conference rout of Columbia Falls.

Jaden Bautista led the Pirates (1-0 NW, 4-4 overall) with 19 points and Jeremiah North Peigan had 17 points as Polson ran out to a 42-24 lead at halftime.

The Wildcats made the game interesting in the third quarter, outscoring Polson 22-8 to cut the Pirates’ lead to 50-46, before Polson pulled away in the fourth quarter.

Logan Stephens, Dakota Bridwell and DJ Schrade each had 14 points for Columbia Falls (0-2, 1-7).

The Loggers (5-4) led 14-9 after the first quarter and held a four-point advantage at half, but fell behind in the second half.

Parker Davis scored 32 points to lead the Rams (5-1).

Erik Lauer chipped in 10 points for Libby.

The Wolfpack (2-4) outscored Post Falls 15-10 in the fourth quarter but struggled with free throws throughout the game, making just 2 of 5 in the overtime period and 8 of 19 in the game.

Kali Gulick had 10 points to lead Glacier and Nikki Krueger had eight points and 11 rebounds before fouling out.

Melanie Kempton had 19 points for Post Falls.

Trailing 13-9 after the first quarter, Eureka (1-2 7B, 3-4 overall) outscored the Blue Hawks 14-4 in the second quarter to take a 23-17 lead into halftime.

Thompson Falls (0-3, 0-7) cut into the lead after halftime, but the Lady Lions held the Blue Hawks to one point in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Sienna Utter had 15 points to lead Eureka.
