Police collect misplaced backpack
An employee of a Second Avenue East business called the Kalispell Police Department to report a backpack had been left at the location. The caller said there was nothing particularly suspicious about the bag, but it did reportedly contain a knife and the caller wanted it picked up.
A young female called police and said she had a broken leg after skiing and needed assistance, then hung up on dispatchers. Call-back attempts were unsuccessful, but previous records showed several other 911 hangups from the same number. Ski patrol was contacted to be on the lookout for a possibly injured skier. The caller’s father called back and told police his child had been “pulling a prank.” Ski patrol was called off.
A caller told police that a large group of teens had pulled into a Depot Park parking lot and he wanted them to move along.
A motor vehicle accident on U.S. 2 East reportedly resulted in a light pole falling into the road and blocking traffic. Officers were able to divert traffic until Flathead Electric was able to remove the pole from the road. No one was injured in the incident.
A woman reported her wallet had been stolen out of her purse while she was shopping in a store on U.S. 93 South.
A fight involving at least three people was reported on North Main Street. The parties were separated and no one wanted to pursue charges.
Officers counseled the driver of a vehicle that had been reported for spinning circles and speeding around in a U.S. 2 West parking lot.
A 12th Street East resident called to report a vehicle stuck in or near her driveway. Officers contacted the vehicle’s owner, who confirmed the vehicle had gotten stuck in a snowbank. The vehicle was not blocking traffic or the driveway and was found not to be a hazard. The owner said he planned to come back the next morning to retrieve the vehicle.
A driver told police that a tire on her vehicle was damaged by large holes in the road near 11th Street West and Second Avenue West. Police notified the appropriate city road department of the potential issue.
A woman reported her wallet was missing and suspected it had been taken the previous night at a U.S. 93 South business. She called back later after finding the wallet in the parking lot.
A caller complained that several vehicles parked in a lot off Hutton Ranch Road were in handicap spots without proper stickers, plates or placards. Officers found only one vehicle not in compliance, and that vehicle was cited.
A Wisconsin Avenue resident called the Whitefish Police Department when a woman allegedly began throwing items around the house.
Passers-by called the Columbia Falls Police Department to report a man in a snowsuit allegedly passed out near 13th Street West. Another caller reported seeing the man get up and stumble down Martha Road. Officers were unable to locate the man.
Officers found that the suspicious subjects reported on Nucleus Avenue were actually just Pokemon hunters.
The Kalispell Fire Department responded to reports of a motor vehicle fire on North Meridian Road.
