Man accused of mailing heroin

A man already facing five felony drug charges for allegedly trafficking heroin into Flathead Valley is now facing two more, this time for allegedly shipping the drugs through the mail.

Kyle Joseph Jacobs, 26, was charged on Jan. 6 in Flathead District Court with felony attempted criminal possession with intent to distribute and criminal possession of dangerous drugs.

According to court documents, Jacobs’ cell phone records were subpoenaed by the Northwest Drug Task Force between July 1-22, 2016, based on prior alleged drug-trafficking incidents. Agents noted that Jacobs received several text messages from the United States Postal Service, letting him know a package was ready for him. On July 22, a package was allegedly sent from California to Jacobs’ grandfather’s residence. A task force agent and drug dog were told when the package arrived, and the dog indicated that drugs might be inside.

After obtaining a warrant, 37.5 grams of suspected heroin was found inside.

Then on Aug. 4, 2016, officers were alerted that Jacobs might be on his way to mail a package. Once he left the post office with the package, officers attempted to stop him. He allegedly dropped the box and fled, but was apprehended. The box allegedly contained suspected heroin and meth. After a warrant was obtained to look through Jacobs backpack, officers also allegedly found additional suspected methamphetamine, a firearm and other drug paraphernalia.

The suspected drugs were sent to the Montana Crime Lab for confirmation.

An arraignment date has not yet been set in that case.

Jacobs has pleaded not guilty in three other cases filed in Flathead District Court in 2016.

In one case he is charged with felony possession of dangerous drugs with intent to distribute and felony possession of dangerous drugs. The charge resulted from a May 25 incident in which Jacobs’ residence was searched after the Northwest Drug Task Force received information he might be a drug trafficker. Seventeen grams of suspected heroin was allegedly found and sent to the Montana State Crime Lab for analysis.

In another instance Jacobs was arrested on Sept. 7 by Northwest Drug Task Force agents on misdemeanor warrants.

He was allegedly found to have $1,700 in his pocket, along with suspected heroin. When interviewed, Jacobs allegedly admitted to trafficking large quantities of heroin into the Flathead Valley. He allegedly confessed that the $1,700 in his pocket was the profit from selling five grams of heroin.

The suspected heroin was sent to the Montana State Crime Lab for analysis.

Authorities had also already charged Jacobs with three felony counts of distribution of dangerous drugs in September. Those charges resulted after Jacobs was documented by law enforcement allegedly selling a gram of heroin on three different occasions in Flathead County on May 17 and May 19.

Each transaction was worth between $270 and $300.
