Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks will host a series of public meetings in Northwest Montana over the next few weeks, focusing on elk hunting regulations and season setting.

Region One Wildlife Program Manager Neil Anderson said the meetings are part of an early start to the hunting season-setting process. They will cover information on elk populations, past harvest and possible season structures, and will include opportunities for hunters and other residents to provide comments and develop ideas.

Current elk hunting regulations in Region One will also be discussed, although no final decisions will be made during he meetings.

Any proposals to emerge from the meetings will have to go through season setting process this coming fall and winter.

All meetings will run from 7 to 9 p.m. and are scheduled as follows:

• Eureka: Thursday, Jan. 19, in the large conference room at Glacier Bank.

• Libby: Wednesday, Jan. 25, at the Macky Little Theatre (formerly the Libby Little Theater)

• Kalispell: Tuesday, Jan. 31, at Flathead Valley Community College, Arts and Technology Building, Room 131

• Trout Creek: Thursday, Feb. 9, at the Lakeside Motel
