A man has been charged with felony assault on a peace officer after he allegedly threw a piece of moulding like a spear at a police officer.

Mark Ladwig Drewry, 61, is set to be arraigned on Feb. 2. Bail in the case has been set at $75,000.

According to court documents, on Jan. 9 a Kalispell police officer responded to a call about a disorderly man on Windward Way. Someone reported that Drewry had allegedly kicked in the door of an apartment and was inside.

Drewry allegedly partially opened the door when the officer responded, and told him that he would kill the man who was hurting his children if the officers did not stop the man. The officer saw what looked like a wooden rod in Drewry’s hand, and when Drewry opened the door, the officer found that the object was a pointed piece of interior moulding.

Drewry allegedly threw the piece of moulding like a spear at the officer, pointed end first. The officer was able to duck and was not hit.

“(The officer) stated if he had not ducked, he would have been seriously injured by the sharp point of the moulding,” prosecutor Stacy Boman wrote in charging documents.
