Kalispell Wrestling Club sign-up on Thursday at FHS

The Kalispell Wrestling Club will hold another sign-up on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at Flathead High School for youngsters in grades K-8.

KWC promotes and supports Folk, Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling. The club has had more than 60 wrestlers achieve college wrestling scholarships since 1973.

Fees are $65 for ages 7-and-up and $40 for ages 5-6.

Evergreen Wrestling Club sign-up today at Evergreen Jr. High

Registration for the Evergreen Wrestling Club is tonight at 6 at Evergreen Junior High School in the cafeteria/gym.

Fees are $40 per wrestler and $20 for Pee Wees (ages 5-6). The fee for each additional sibling is $20.

The successful program is run by veteran coach Dave Caron.

Glacier Babe Ruth baseball registration ends March 1

Boys between the ages of 13-15 from Bigfork, Columbia Falls and Whitefish have until March 1 to register for the Glacier Babe Ruth baseball program.

Registration can be done online at www.glacierbaberuth.com (click on registrations, print it and fill it out and post date it by March 1). Forms are also available at the junior high and high schools in Columbia Falls and Whitefish.

Glacier Babe Ruth will host state tournaments July 11-16 for age divisions 13, 14 and 13-15.

Lakers Legion baseball sign-up meeting on Feb. 6

Kalispell Lakers American Legion baseball will hold a sign-up meeting on Feb. 6 at 5:30 p.m. at the Flathead County Fairgrounds in the Country Kitchen Building.

Players born between 1997-2004 are eligible to play. A $75 registration fee is required with paperwork, tryout dates, schedules, sponsorship fees and season pass expectations/opportunities available that evening.

Gatorade honors Senior’s Vladic for girls cross country

Tiahna Vladic of Billings Senior High School is the 2016-17 Gatorade Montana Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year.

She is the first to be chosen for this honor from Billings Senior.

The award, in addition to athletic excellence, includes high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the race course. She is also a finalist for the Gatorade National Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year award.

The 5-foot-4 sophomore won the Class AA state meet last fall with a time of 16:40.74, finishing 10.64 seconds ahead of the field and leading the Broncs to a second-place finish as a team. Vladic also placed fifth at the Nike Cross Nationals Northwest Regional championships and finished 21st at the NXN Final, falling short of All-American honors by .1 seconds. She is a two-time Class AA All-State selection.

She has volunteered locally at the Montana Marathon and as a youth running coach. Vladic has a 3.75 GPA.

The Gatorade Player of the Year program annually recognizes one winner in the District of Columbia and each of the 50 states that sanction high school sports and awards one National Player of the Year in each sport. The selection process is administered by the Gatorade Player of the Year Selection Committee.

Vladic joins Gatorade Montana Girls Cross Country Runners of the Year Annie Hill (2015-16, Glacier High School), Makena Morley (2014-15, 2013-14, 2012-13 & 2011-12), Bigfork High School), Caroline Hardin (2010-11, Bozeman High School), and Heidi Turner (2009-10, 2008-09 & 2007-08, Bozeman High School), as athletes who have won the cross country award since its inception in 2007.
