Flathead was in charge from start to finish in dominating Missoula Sentinel 48-18 on Thursday evening in a Western AA wrestling dual at Flathead High School.

The Braves, 17-2 duals this season, jumped out to an 18-0 lead thanks to a Sentinel forfeit at 103, a pin by Flathead’s Hunter Rush (113) and decisions by Bryce Shaffer (120) and Cody DeVall (126).

Sentinel won three straight matches after that before Payton Humne (152), Garrett Reike (160) and Tucker Nadeau (170) recorded pins.

Flathead won by forfeit at 205 and 285.

“I’m really proud of this team and how far they have come,” Flathead coach Jeff Thompson said.

“It was an awesome atmosphere. They wrestled with all their hearts tonight.”

This was Flathead’s final home dual of the regular season. The Braves honored five seniors on Senior Night — Rush, DeVall, Cade Quinn (145), Jonas Nyman (182) and Matt Gash-Dilder (205).

Rush, who normally wrestles at 103, moved up a weight class and still dominated with a fall at 1:32.

DeVall also moved up a weight class and beat the No. 6-ranked Reece Eckley, 10-6.

Thompson said Quinn and Nyman “put in great efforts” despite losing by pin and decision, respectively

Nyman was tied in his match with Dylan Goforth 2-2 going into the third period. He lost 7-2.

Gash-Gilder won by forfeit.

“It was quite the show,” Thompson said.

“Huge fan support, they were roaring and the student body was roaring. It was just like the good old days. It was fantastic.”

Flathead concludes regular-season action Saturday with duals at Helena Capital and Helena High.
