Glacier slips by Hellgate

MISSOULA — Caden Harkins sank a 10-footer in the lane with two seconds remaining to push Glacier past Missoula Hellgate 53-52 in a Western AA boys basketball thriller Thursday evening.

“Hellgate is such a hard place to play,” Glacier coach Mark Harkins said.

“I think this is the first time we’ve beaten them here in six years.”

Glacier (10-1 overall, 3-0 league) was led by Jaxen Hashley, who had a game-high 23 points and 13 rebounds.

“That was huge,” Harkins said of his senior center.

Harkins finished with 11 points

Glacier tallied 25 points in the third quarter, “which got us rolling,” Harkins said.

That put Glacier in front 41-35.

“It was back and forth the whole game,” Harkins said.

“A good win on the road.”

Derrius Collins topped Hellgate (7-4, 1-2) in scoring with 17 points.

Glacier hosts Missoula Big Sky on Saturday at 4:15 p.m.

Big Sky 51, Flathead 48

MISSOULA — Alex Simmons sank a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give Missoula Big Sky (2-8, 1-2) the Western AA victory over Flathead (6-5, 2-1).

Flathead tied the game at 48-all on a 3-pointer by Wyatt Potter with nine seconds remaining.

Flathead led 33-26 at the half.

Simmons finished with 13 points while Potter had six for Flathead.

Tyler Johnson led Flathead, and all scorers, with 20 points.

Flathead hosts Missoula Hellgate on Saturday at 4:15 p.m.

BIGFORK — Anders Epperly scored 13 of his game-high 18 points in the opening quarter and Logan Gilliard finished with a double-double — 11 points and 10 rebounds — as Class B Bigfork rolled to an easy nonconference victory over Class A Whitefish.

Bigfork led 19-3 after eight minutes of play and 30-10 at intermission.

Dillon Botner topped Whitefish in scoring with 10 points.

Bigfork hosts Missoula Loyola on Saturday at 5 p.m. Whitefish plays at Frenchtown on Saturday at 4 p.m.

EUREKA — Isaac Neumann scored a game-high 28 points as Stillwater Christian dropped Class B Eureka in a nonconference contest.

Colton Cooper netted a career-high 16 points for Eureka.

Stillwater led 8-6, 20-11 and 38-24 after the first three quarter breaks.

EUREKA — Class B Eureka needed a big fourth quarter to come out on top of Stillwater Christian in a nonconference matchup.

Eureka held a 12-4 edge after eight minutes of play and 35-32 heading into the fourth quarter.

Lulu Neumann led Stillwater in scoring with 11 points.

Eryn Their had 12 points for Eureka.

BIGFORK — Class A Whitefish could muster just six points a quarter in falling to Class B Bigfork.

Jaime Berg led a balanced Bigfork attack with 15 points. Abby Ellison had 13 and Shae Anderson 11.

Becca Catina tallied six points for Whitefish.

Bigfork hosts Missoula Loyola on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Frenchtown is at Whitefish for a 4 p.m. tipoff on Saturday.
