School calendar

• Cayuse Prairie parent/teacher conferences are set Monday and Tuesday. There is no school.

• Kalispell Parks and Recreation will hold a beginner ice skating session Tuesday through Feb. 9. Lessons will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Cost is $51 per session.

• Mary Howard from Reach Higher Montana will be in the Glacier High School Career Center from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday to help seniors complete the Free Application For Federal Student Aid. Students should stop by the Career Center to schedule a meeting.

• Wednesday is the deadline to register to audition for Bigfork’s annual “Cowabunga” talent show and fundraiser for Bigfork ACES and Bigfork Children’s Theatre. Open to all ages. Auditions for “Cowabunga: The Udder Limits” will be held Feb. 7-8. Audition forms are available at www.acesafterschool.com/cowabunga.html. Forms may be dropped off at the Bigfork Elementary/Middle School office or emailed to bigforkaces@gmail.com.

• Parent/teacher conferences are set Wednesday and Thursday at Helena Flats School.

• A Sadie Hawkins dance is planned from 8 to 10:30 p.m. Friday at Columbia Falls High School.

• There is no school Friday for Helena Flats students. It is a teacher work day.

• More than 100 students from seven area high schools will meet in Kalispell Feb. 6-7 for the biennial Women’s Choral Festival hosted by FVCC’s Music Department. The public is invited to attend a free concert at 6 p.m. Feb. 7 at Flathead High School in the auditorium.

• Parent/teacher conferences are planned Feb. 8 at West Valley School.

• Fair-Mont-Egan grades fifth through eighth will participate in a school spelling bee Feb. 9.

• Whitefish PTA will host a screening of “Screenagers — Growing up in the Digital Age,” at 7 p.m. Feb. 9 at Whitefish Performing Arts Center. The event is free and open to the public.

• Fair-Mont-Egan kindergarten through third students have a 1:30 p.m. release Feb. 10.

• Columbia Falls High School students are invited to participate in a school-wide art competition. Artwork must incorporate the “CFHS Pride: Bleed Blue” theme. Categories are: 2-D, 3-D, woodwork, metalwork, writing or poetry. Entries are due by Feb. 10. Prizes will be awarded and artwork displayed in the foyer.

• Swan River students have a 1:45 p.m. dismissal Feb. 10.

• Fair-Mont-Egan families are invited to partake in a Valentine’s Day date night from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Feb. 14 in the school gym. Eighth graders will provide childcare while couples have dinner. Cost is $10 per child and includes dinner. RSVP by Feb. 12 to srohletter@fmemontana.net.

• Registration for Kalispell Kickers indoor soccer ends Feb. 17. The Kalispell Parks and Recreation program is open to children in grades kindergarten through fourth grade. The program will be held on Saturdays March 4 though April 8. For more information call 758-7848.

• Most schools are out Feb. 20 for Presidents Day. Bigfork School District, Cayuse Prairie and Helena Flats schools will use it as a snow make-up day if necessary.

• Kila students will be out of school Feb. 20. It is a teacher work day.

• Smith Valley students have no school Feb. 20 for Presidents Day and Feb. 21 for a teacher work day.

• West Valley students will have an early out at 1 p.m. Feb. 22.

• A pie auction, musical and talent show is scheduled at Fair-Mont-Egan from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 24.

• Two lamb showmanship 4-H clinics are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 10 and June 11. Participants should bring a lamb to work with. Participants will learn about feed and management, show preparation and training techniques. The cost to attend the clinic is $75 and includes lunch and a T-shirt, or $60 for the lunch only. Participants who turn in a sponsorship of $100 or more by Feb. 28 to the Flathead County Sheep Committee will not be charged a clinic fee.

• Kila parent/teacher conferences are set March 1.

• Marion students will have a noon dismissal March 1 for staff development.

• Fair-Mont-Egan students have no school March 3. It is a teacher work day.

• Whitefish Christian Academy students have a noon release March 3. It is a teacher work day.

• March 4 marks the end of the second trimester for Bigfork students.

• March 7 marks the end of the trimester for Creston students.

• March 8 marks the end of the second trimester at Somers-Lakeside School District.

• March 10 marks the end of the second trimester for Olney-Bissell students.

• Missoula Children’s Theater will visit Fair-Mont-Egan School March 20-24.

• A K-8 spring program is planned at Smith Valley School March 23.

• Bigfork Elementary will hold Child Find screenings by appointment only between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. March 23. Open to children ages 3 through 5 who live in the Bigfork School District. Children will be screened by qualified personnel in the areas of hearing, vision, motor skills, speech, language and thinking skills. Call Carol Venegas at 837-7412 to make an appointment.

• Kila students have an early dismissal March 24 at 2 and 2:20 p.m.

• Montana 4-H youth and leaders are invited to a horse and livestock forum March 24-26 at Red Lion Hotel in Kalispell. Registration will open in February. Participants will get an introduction on livestock and small animal care. Other activities such as a dance, skill-a-thon and interactive tours are planned.
