Officials investigating Libby woman's death as homicide

A suspicious death in Libby last fall is officially being investigated as a homicide.

On Oct. 18, 2016, Lincoln County sheriff’s deputies responded to a Libby-area home for an unresponsive female, 53-year-old Tami Sunell, who was determined to be deceased.

A state medical examiner determined the cause of death was manual strangulation and ruled the death as a homicide.

During an initial investigation, the coroner was unable to determine a cause of death and ordered an autopsy to be performed. Circumstances at the Montana State Crime Lab caused the results of the autopsy to be significantly delayed.

The Sheriff’s Office is continuing an investigation into the homicide and has requested that anyone who may have information related to the case to call (406) 293-4112.
