Stephen M. Waite, 70

| July 1, 2017 8:14 PM

Steve Waite passed away on June 28, 2017, at home in Lakeside, after a long battle with cancer.

Steve was born Sept. 13, 1946, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

He served two years in the Army, stationed in Korea.

He married Sherry in 1971 in Minnesota; they were married 45 years.

He began his career with UPS in 1969 in Minnesota, and they moved to Jackson, Wyoming, in 1973, where he was the first delivery driver in the state of Wyoming as UPS expanded service to the intermountain West. He rose through the ranks of UPS to become state and then division manager, living in several places in Wyoming and Colorado before retiring to the Flathead Valley in 2000.

Steve’s passions were fishing and restoring Mopar muscle cars. He and his friend Mark, often accompanied by Steve’s son, Michael, made their annual fishing trip to Flaming Gorge Reservoir each May for 30 plus years. Last year, his final trip, he caught his largest fish ever, a 36-pound lake trout. He was a fixture at local car shows and the Lakeside Days Parade with one or more of the three 1960s muscle cars he restored along with his son Steven.

Steve and Sherry had a winter home in Mesquite, Nevada, for many years but the Flathead was their true home. He will be remembered as a good friend, always willing to help others, and a jovial person who enjoyed a good laugh.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry; children Diana (Jon); Steven; Jennifer (Dean) and Michael; four siblings and his loyal dog, Cooper.

Private services for the family only will be held.

Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home is caring for the family.
