Myrtus Boon, 90

| July 12, 2017 9:13 PM

Myrtus Boon, born May 9, 1927, to John and Ella Hewitt in Polson, died at Immanuel Lutheran Home on the evening of July 5, 2017. Her children and one of her sisters had been with her all through the last week sharing memories and the sure hope of her real home in heaven.

Myrtie grew up in Polson, the eldest of four sisters. They were raised to love and follow the Lord Jesus and to love and share the gift of music, which is a legacy for generations. After graduating from Polson High School, Myrtie attended secretarial school in Minneapolis.

She returned to Polson and worked for a local Realtor. She also worked a couple of summers at the lodge on Rocky Point where she met a cute sailor who was the nephew of the caretakers. She married the sailor, Bucky Boon, on Aug. 20, 1947, and lived in Somers for 50 years. Bucky preceded her in death in 1993 after 45 years of marriage.

Myrtie was a member of Eidsvold Lutheran Church in Somers. She was involved in almost every aspect of the church through the years. She participated in and led many activities including choir, accompanist for the Junior Choir, Ladies Aid, Council, cantor and Scripture reading as well as Sunday school and Vacation Bible School teacher. Being an instructor for the Bethel Bible Series was a highlight for her.

Making a home for her family of five children and Bucky was a joy to Myrtie. She and Bucky also opened their home as well as their hearts to several foster children. Myrtie loved to sew and baking was a special gift. Her cookie jar was always kept full and the neighborhood kids knew that was so. With four little girls and one boy, she kept the sewing machine going and the ever-present ironing board had almost constant use.

Music was a great love and activity for Myrtie.

Many times she sewed matching outfits for her five children, taught them a medley of tunes and took them to the Lutheran Home, to a church or school event or a family gathering where she accompanied them on the piano as they sang. She had a beautiful alto voice that she trained through the years to have a range so she could sing tenor, alto or soprano. In later years she sang with the Sweet Adelines and then with the Valley Voices, two local groups. She was totally involved sewing costumes, practicing constantly and inviting people to enjoy the concerts. Most recently, she and two other music-loving residents at Immanuel Lutheran Home started singing together which led to a few “concerts” by the Singing Songbirds. Myrtie was preceded in death by her parents, her “one and only” Bucky, and a son-in-law, Michael “Doc” Dockstader.

She is survived by her children, Judy and Pat O’Boyle, Lanni and Ron Fetveit of Kalispell, Dave and Robin Boon of Las Vegas, Janet and Wayne Harness and Wanda Dockstader of Bigfork. She was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, with one more due in November. She is also survived by her sisters, Delphia Blumenthal of Kalispell, Leona Frazier, and Gail and Harvey Erickson of Moses Lake, Washington; sisters-in-law, Ila Geno of Spokane and Elaine McIntyre of Mount Vernon, Washington, and many nieces, nephews and truck loads of friends!

Myrtie, Mom, Grammyrtie, GG — She has left a precious legacy: Faith in the saving work of Jesus Christ and the sure promise of eternal life with Him; her contentment with the gift of life even when it gets tough; family and the blessing of time together and laughing together.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 14, at Eidsvold Lutheran Church in Somers.

Memorials can be made to Eidsvold Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.
