Snowshoe, W. Va. — Columbia Falls mountain biker Rose Grant finished in third place at the USA Cycling short track cross country national championships on Saturday at Snowshoe Mountain Resort.

Grant, the national marathon mountain bike champion, started the bike race, which had 24 entrants, in sixth place.

California’s Kate Courtney led for most of the race and had a 10-second lead on the field and was beginning to pull away before suffering a flat front tire at the start of the final lap. That allowed Colorado’s Erin Huck to close the gap for the victory in 35 minutes, 45 seconds.

Vermont’s Lea Davison finished second in 36:06 and Grant beat out Utah’s Haley Batten by two seconds at the finish line for third place, finishing in 36:52. Courtney finished fifth.

(UPDATE: This article has been corrected to note Grant finished in third place and adds official times. It originally stated she finished fourth.)
