Suspicious men offer no reason to smile

An employee at a local jewelry store contacted the Whitefish Police Department to report there were two males in the store allegedly asking customers for smiles. A second caller reported the same two individuals, who appeared intoxicated, were asking people for money and cigarettes near a local church. The caller reported later on the two men were attending an AA meeting downstairs in the church.

A caller reported an allegedly intoxicated female punched them when they tried to take their keys away. The caller said the female was in a parking lot, trying to drive. An officer responded to the location, but didn’t find anyone around.

An individual contacted the Columbia Falls Police Department to complain about a truck allegedly full of garbage and people living in a nearby garage. An officer made contact with the caller and confirmed two males were living in the garage. She reportedly stated they were not supposed to be there and would tell them to move along. The officer advised the males to get rid of the garbage in the truck bed.

A male contacted Kalispell Police Department to report an individual who allegedly tried to swing a 2x4 at him at a local car dealership. An officer responded to the scene to speak with the caller.

A caller reported a blue mini van stopped in the middle of U.S. 93 near a local church. The female driver reportedly had her head back and appeared unresponsive. The driver later reportedly began moving around. An officer transported the female to a hospital for a blood draw and later arrested her for driving under the influence.

An individual reported an elderly woman allegedly repeatedly struck two young children in the head. The female in question was spotted arguing with another female who was reportedly trying to intervene. The elderly woman allegedly slapped the children. An officer responded to the scene and reported an extreme language barrier.

An apartment manager reported a tenant was allegedly smoking marijuana in their apartment and that the smoke was very heavy inside the apartment. The caller stated the male in question was reportedly high, slurring his words and “too stoned to answer the door.”

A main water line reportedly burst and water was bubbling from underneath the asphalt. The local public works department was advised and officers blocked one lane of traffic at the location.

A female reportedly tried to flee a grocery store with approximately $300 worth of items in her cart without paying. The store manager located the woman but she later allegedly fled on foot. A male she was reportedly with left the scene in a gray Pontiac.

A woman reported her children may have stolen candy the night before and requested an officer scare them so they wouldn’t do it again. Dispatch advised the caller that, that would portray law enforcement in a negative light and said the matter should be handled by her and her husband.
