A bicyclist was hospitalized Saturday after crashing on Glacier National Park’s Going-to-the-Sun Road in one of three bike wrecks that occurred within a one-hour span.

The rider was placed on a stretcher and taken to an area hospital by Three Rivers Ambulance after sustaining possible head, neck and chest injuries from a crash about two miles above The Loop, according to park spokeswoman Lauren Alley.

Alley stated Monday that park rangers also responded to the other two bike crashes, but both riders declined ambulance transportation and were driven back to their vehicles.

All three crashes occurred between 3 and 4 p.m. None of them involved multiple cyclists.

Going-to-the-Sun Road is open to hikers and bikers beyond the current motorized vehicle closure at Avalanche.

Alley noted that bicyclists riding on the scenic road should take extra precautions, including watching for fallen rocks on the roadway, paying attention to their speed while riding downhill, wearing a helmet and remaining aware of other cyclists and pedestrians along the way.
