BILLINGS — The streak is over.

The Kalispell Lakers AA saw their 13-game winning streak come to an end in Game 1 of a doubleheader against the Billings Scarlets on Wednesday afternoon. The Lakers salvaged a split with a win in the nightcap.

Kalispell scored a pair of runs late, but was unable to overcome the Scarlets in a 5-2 loss in Game 1 of the doubleheader, which was originally scheduled for Tuesday but was postponed due to inclement weather.

Pat O’Connell recorded two of the Lakers’ four hits in the defeat, including a double, while the Kalispell pitching staff surrendered 11 hits to Billings.

The offense that was lacking in the first game returned with a vengeance in Game 2, as the Lakers pounded the Scarlets 15-1.

O’Connell once again led the offense with three hits, including a triple, and Eric Seaman added three of his own. O’Connell and Haydn Schlepp drove in three runs apiece.

Sam Elliott, Johan Freudenberg and Keaden Morisaki each had two RBIs in a balanced offensive performance.

Elliott also dazzled on the mound, holding Billings to a run on four hits.

The Lakers return to the diamond on Saturday at 7 p.m. in a road matchup with Great Falls. They’ll stay overnight and play again Sunday at noon.
