Mary Anna Zauner, 80

| June 16, 2017 7:42 PM

Mary Anna Zauner, 80, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2017, at Heritage Place under the care of the wonderful staff.

Mary Anna was born in Idaho to Charles Vernon Schad and Ava Gertrude Noel Schad. After the death of her father, Mary Anna, her mother and younger sister moved to Montana. In Kalispell, Mary Anna gained a new father in Glen Shepherd and became part of his very special family. She graduated from Flathead County High School, and then married John Zauner Jr. in 1955. Mary Anna was a homemaker for several years, taking care of her two children and supporting John in his endeavors. When they returned home to Kalispell, and bought the Kalispell Coast to Coast store, she began a long run of retail work alongside her husband. She really loved working in the Ben Franklin stores that they owned; her creativity was allowed to shine. After they moved to Eureka, Mom removed herself from retail and crafted at will.

Mary Anna took part in many activities over the years. She was a Brownie leader, a Girl Scout leader, a Cub Scout leader, a Boy Scout leader, a very active member of Epworth United Methodist Church, a board member of the Smith Memorial Day Care Center, and she loved to bowl. Her greatest joy, however, was being with her grandchildren. She loved holding them, watching them participate in sports and school activities, being included in the big events in their lives, and seeing them grow and become successful in their own individual ways. When she was in the nursing home, her face lit up the brightest when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren would come into her room and share their time with her.

Mary Anna leaves behind her daughter, Cheryl, and husband, John King; son, Darrel, and wife, Shelley Zauner; grandchildren, Ashley and Bobby Jones, Shila and Cody Schreiner, Patrick King, Ali Zauner, and Marni Zauner; and great-grandchildren, AnnaLynn and DecLand Schreiner. She is also survived by her sister, Dixie, and Cliff Tye; brother-in-law, David, and Rosie Zauner; brother-in-law, Fred, and Shirley Zauner; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, on Nov. 13, 2016.

No service is planned at this time; there will be a get together for both Mom and Dad at a later date.

We would like to thank the wonderful staff at Heritage Place for taking such great care of both Mom and Dad! All of you are much appreciated.
