Hill finishes 4th in mile at Brooks PR
SEATTLE — Kalispell’s Annie Hill fell just short of repeating as the girls mile title champion at the prestigious Brooks PR track meet on Saturday, finishing fourth against the nation’s top competitions at Shoreline Stadium.
Hill, who just finished her junior year at Glacier High School, shook free from traffic after a slow-paced first lap and got onto the hip of leader Taylor Roe at the 800 meter mark.
Hill took the lead on the backstretch in her third lap and after crossing the line to begin the final 400 started to stride out. Hill pushed the pace and built a 15 meter lead rounding into the final 200, but ran out of gas in the homestretch.
Three runners outkicked Hill to the finish, leaving the Montana state mile champ in fourth place in a time of 4:46.18. Senior Anna Gibson of Jackson, Wyoming, took the title in 4:43.77. Arizona’s Allie Schadler (4:44.03) took second and Lexy Halladay, a freshman from Meridian, Idaho, took third in 4:44.24.
Hill won the race last year, running away with the victory in 4:41.52.
Recent Billings Senior graduate Dawson LaRance, who set the Montana all-class record in the 800 this spring, won the 800 at the Brooks PR, finishing in 1:50.98. Texas’ Reed Brown finished second and Missouri’s Brandon Miller was third.
