Barn on Gray Lane lost in fire

A Kalispell family lost their barn in a structure fire Saturday evening on Gray Lane.

According to Smith Valley Fire Chief Amy Beick, the family was home when the blaze started but was unaware the barn was burning until firefighters arrived on scene at around 6:20 p.m.

The family’s neighbors reported seeing the flames that engulfed the structure and took Evergreen, Kalispell, South Kalispell and Smith Valley Fire Departments about 30 minutes to extinguish.

Though the building was still standing when firefighters left the scene, Beick said it was “pretty much a total loss.”

Beick said the building was insured but contained many of the family’s personal belongings, which were lost.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No animals or people were inside the structure or harmed by the fire.
