A man was killed and a juvenile female was injured in a head-on crash in downtown Kalispell on Tuesday morning.

In a press statement, Kalispell Police Chief Roger Nasset said a full-size Ford pickup pulling a flatbed trailer was northbound on Main Street when a Cadillac passenger car crossed the center line at the intersection of Fifth Street and Main Street, striking the pickup nearly head on.

Both vehicles came to rest in the northbound lane of Main Street.

The male driver of the car was pronounced dead on scene and the female passenger was taken to Kalispell Regional Medical Center.

Kalispell Police Sergeant Brett Corbett said the girl’s injuries were not life-threatening, but could not comment on her condition.

The identity of the victims has not yet been released, but police say they were “local.”

The two men in the pickup were treated at the scene and required no further medical attention.

According to Nasset, witnesses stated that speed may have been a factor in the crash. The speed limit downtown is 25 mph.

Lab work will determine whether alcohol or drugs were involved.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, Nasset said.

Main Street was closed to traffic between Fourth Street and Sixth Street for about two hours, before reopening around noon.
