Medley, Crippen set to defend titles
Andrew Medley putts July 2 in the 80th Annual Earl Hunt Memorial 4th Of July Tournament at Whitefish Lake Golf Club. Medley won the three-day tourney by one stroke.

Andrew Medley of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Saddie Crippen of Missoula are back to defend their 4th of July Tournament titles at Whitefish Lake Golf Club this weekend.
The 54-hole event begins Thursday at 7:30 a.m. and ends Saturday.
The field is packed with another star-studded lineup of top amateur players from all over the Pacific Northwest and Canada. There are 220 entrants in the men’s tournament and 40 for the women.
Medley last year used a spectacular finish to win this event for the first time. He birdied the 17th hole and followed with an eagle on 18 for a 1-shot victory over Mark Mance of Whitefish.
Rob Bergeson of Billings was two-shots behind the winner and tied for third along with Libby prep standout Ryggs Johnston.
Crippen also had to work for her title, finishing one-shot ahead of her sister Maggie and Hailey Hoagland of Butte.
Teigan Avery of Kalispell was fourth, just two shots off the pace.
The Crippen sisters are back along with Avery.
Other contenders for the women are Coral Schulz, a two-time Class A state high school champion from Whitefish, Cathie Tronson (Williamson) of Great Falls and Carly McNaughton of Lethbridge, Alberta.
Tronson won this tournament in 2001, 2002 and 2003.
The Crippen sisters and McNaughton are in the same group today.
Medley will tee off at 8:45 this morning along with Rick Reimers of Missoula and Arthur Doorn of Whitefish.
The men will play the South Course (par 71) today and Saturday and the North course (par 72) on Friday. The women are on the North Course today and Saturday and the South Course on Friday.
Bob Conrad of Yarrow Point, Washington, is another contender on the men’s side. He won this tournament in 2015, finishing 9 shots ahead of Logan Lindholm of Kalispell.
Johnston placed third that year.
Others to keep an eye on are John Moscrip of Seattle, who won this tournament in 1997, Shawn Tucker of Whitefish, a runner-up in 2007 and 2010, and Bob Hasquet of Missoula.
There will be a Women’s Derby today and a Men’s Derby on Friday.
Spectators are welcome.
