A two-car collision on U.S. 2 in Glacier National Park on Thursday left seven people injured, one of whom had to be air lifted from the scene.

Authorities responded to the Goat Lick area at mile marker 182 near Essex at 3:30 p.m. and determined that one vehicle had stopped in the middle of a travel lane, causing another vehicle to rear-end it at highway speed, according to Glacier National Park Management Assistant Lauren Alley. The status and identities of the patients were not available Friday, and the cause of the accident remained under investigation.

Park Service officials arrived first on the scene and were assisted by Flathead and Glacier county sheriff’s offices, Three Rivers Ambulance, Coram-West Glacier Fire Department, the Alert helicopter and Montana Highway Patrol.
