Renowned dinosaur expert Jack Horner will host a question-and-answer session and be part of a screening of the iconic film he consulted on during the first-ever Dino-Mite Fun Day, Saturday in Bigfork.

Horner will kick off the three-part event from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Community United Methodist Church when he answers audience questions. One of the world’s most recognizable paleontologists, Horner worked for decades at Bozeman’s Museum of the Rockies and advised the production team of “Jurassic Park,” which will be shown later in the day. Horner discovered his first dinosaur bone when he was eight years old and has published eight books.

“Jack Horner is the cornerstone,” Andrea Goff, a member of the board of directors at the Bigfork Art and Cultural Center, which is promoting the event, said.

“They were able to get his time and then the idea that sprung from that was ‘what can we do from there?’”

The Dino-Mite Fun Day continues at the Art and Cultural Center with free family arts and crafts from 1 to 3 p.m., including a make your own paper dinosaur station.

Then at 3 p.m. at the Bigfork Center for the Performing Arts, Horner and producer Jerry Molen will screen “Jurassic Park.” Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under, with proceeds benefiting the Art and Cultural Center.

“This is kind of ski time,” Goff said. “Here’s something kind of interactive that wakes up a little different part of yourself.

“It’s great and we’ll engage a new part of an audience and, hopefully, a broad spectrum of people throughout the valley that might not come into Bigfork or even know the Bigfork Art and Cultural Center exists.”

Tickets for “Jurassic Park” are on sale now at Electric Avenue Gifts, Jug Tree and Persimmon in Bigfork.
