Flathead schools prep for prom

Saturday is the big night for dressing up and dancing the night away at Flathead Valley high school proms.

Adventure and intrigue await Bigfork High School students at a James Bond-themed prom. The dance will be from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. at the Atanaha Event Center, 29048 Broken Leg Road, Bigfork. Tickets are $35 per person or $45 per couple and must be purchased by today. The ticket price includes an Italian soda and use of a photo booth.

The red carpet will be rolled out for Columbia Falls High School prom-goers as they prepare for “A Night at the Oscars.” Fans may watch their favorite stars at a grand march set for 7 p.m. at the high school. The dance will be held from 8 to 11 p.m. at First Citizens Bank, 540 Nucleus Ave., Columbia Falls. Ticket prices are $25 per person or $40 per couple. Tickets will be available for purchase at the school and the door.

Flathead High School students will roar into the decadent ’20s at a “Party at Gatsby’s” from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. at Blank Space, 235 United Drive, Kalispell. Professional photos will be available. Cost is $15 per person and $20 per couple. Tickets will be available for purchase at the school or at the door.

A trip into the magical world of Narnia is planned for Glacier High School students as they “Take a Trip through the Wardrobe.” A grand march for senior prom-goers is planned at 9 p.m. in the commons. Participating seniors are asked to arrive at 8:30 p.m. to sign up. The dance will be held from 9 to 11:30 p.m. at the school. Professional photos will be available. Tickets are $15 per person or $25 per couple.

A dual Flathead and Glacier ticket may be purchased for $30 per couple.

Whitefish High School prom-goers can bet on a night of thrilling fun at a “Casino Royale” themed prom. A grand march will kick off the festivities at 7:30 p.m. at the O’Shaughnessy Cultural Arts Center, 1 Central Ave., Whitefish. Grand march participants must arrive at 7:15 p.m. to line up. The dance will begin at 8 p.m. and end at 11 p.m. The deadline to purchase tickets has passed.

Flathead CARE has after-prom covered with a free double-feature movie night for high school students only at Cinemark Signature Stadium 14 in Kalispell.

Doors open at 11:45 p.m. Saturday. Movies shown include “Beauty and the Beast,” “Kong — Skull Island,” and “Before I Fall.” The first showing will begin at staggered times — 12:20, 12:30 and 12:45 a.m. respectively. There will also be a second screening of all three movies beginning at 3 a.m.

Free after-prom tickets may be picked up at any high school main office. Included in admission is popcorn and soda. Tickets are available in each high school’s main office. Prom attendance is not mandatory to attend.

This is a county-wide chaperoned, drug- and alcohol-free event.
