POLSON — The Polson tennis teams started their season with a flurry as both the boys and girls teams swept the opening meet in perfect early-season weather on Thursday at Linderman tennis courts.

The Polson boys opened with a sweep of Libby, leaning on a doubles group that would go undefeated on the day to top the defending Class B/C champs.

The teams of Matt Sitter and Cadis Chowning, Jaron Morgan and Carson McDaniel and Kabe Forman-Webster and Sam Schultz dropes a combined nine points against Libby.

Colin Kenney, Kaiden Forman-Webster and Joe McDonald each picked up straight sets victories in singles plays in the dual, with Johnny Moore topping Libby’s Virgil Sadewasser 11-9 in a tiebreaking third set to complete the singles sweep.

Kaiden Forman-Webster picked up the only singles win against Hamilton to help the Pirates edge out a 4-3 victory after another doubles sweep by the teams of Morgan and Chowning, Sitter and McDaniel and Kendall and Kabe Forman-Webster.

The Polson girls powered through the opening day, winning a pair of 6-1 decisions.

Cassie Carlyle and Sophia Speckert each swept a pair of singles victories while Olivia Hewston, Shea McGuinness and Josie Peterson each split doubles and singles victories to go undefeated on the day.

The Pirates nearly went undefeated in doubles, with Kyler Lundeen and Alia Tavenner each going undefeated with a mix of partners on a day used to toy with different lineups.

Peterson and Olivia Perez teamed up for the most exciting match of the day on the girls side, winning 10-8 in a decisive third set to take No. 3 doubles against Hamilton. The pair had lost 4-6 in the first set before a 6-2 bounceback in the second set up the long rally for the win.
