Libby's Johnston takes opener

HAMILTON — Libby sophomore Ryggs Johnston started his second prep season where the first one left off, with a win.

Johnston, the defending Class B individual champion, shot an even par 72 to win the Darby-Florence Invitational by one stroke over Missoula Loyola sophomore Bucky Crippen. Ronan’s Vinny Bird-Webster finished in third.

The Loyola boys placed five golfers in the top nine finishers to take the team title at the event.

The Loyola girls took the top three spots at the meet, led by a 2-over-par 72 from Kylie Esh, easily winning the team title.
