Editor’s note: The dates for the upcoming work session and meeting have changed. The revised dates are included below.

The Montana Fish and Wildlife Commission will take action on the Quiet Waters Initiative rule proposals during a special May 26 meeting.

The Commission will hold a work session at Montana WILD, 2668 Broadwater Ave. in Helena, on Thursday, May 25, at 4 p.m. for an overview of the proposed rules and will reconvene Friday, May 26, at 8:30 a.m. to take public comments and make a final decision.

The meeting will be streamed live at regional Fish, Wildlife and Parks offices. Public comments can be provided in person at any regional office or during the meeting in Helena.

Both the work session and special meeting will also be audio streamed live online at www.fwp.mt.gov.

The commission initiated rulemaking last spring on a petition submitted by Backcountry Hunters and Anglers titled the Quiet Waters Initiative. Public hearings on the proposed rules were held throughout Montana in January and extensive public comment was received. The proposed rules included language restricting motorized boating on a variety of rivers and streams across the state.
