Multiple reports of theft has prompted the Kalispell Police Department to issue a reminder to citizens to lock and secure their vehicles, residences and garages.

In the last week alone, the department received reports of 11 thefts from motor vehicles, six thefts from residences and six stolen motor vehicles.

Almost every case occurred when the vehicles or houses were left unlocked with valuables left inside and the key left unsecured.

“The warmer weather has brought an increase in nighttime activity and thefts,” a Kalispell Police press release said. “People should be taking additional steps to protect themselves and property. Anyone seeing anything suspicious should call 911 immediately.”

Officers advise everyone to make sure their vehicles and homes are secure before leaving them unattended and removing valuables from cars whether they are locked or unlocked.
