Scott R. Nieboer, 55

Scott R. Nieboer, of Nashville, Tennessee, beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend, passed away unexpectedly on April 25, 2017, at his cottage on Flathead Lake.

Scott was born Aug. 14, 1961 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Robert and Carol Nieboer. In 1963 his parents moved to Kalispell and Montana became his home. In 1979 he graduated from Flathead High School where he played saxophone in the band and lettered in tennis. He received his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering in 1982 from Montana State University, and his master’s degree in business administration from Vanderbilt University’s Owen’s Business School in 1986.

Scott had a very successful career in the global financial markets. He was employed by Merrill Lynch & Co. in New York City; J.C. Bradford & Co. in Nashville; 5th Market, a company he founded; and Curtiswood Capital where he was a founding partner.

In 2015 Scott became an investor in commercial real estate and spent much of his free time in Montana and Canada where he loved to ski, hunt, fish, hike and spend time with family. Most recently he took a trip to Australia where he dove in the Great Barrier Reef and fly fished streams in Tasmania.

Scott was preceded in death by his wife Alden Tucker Nieboer in 2009.

He is survived by his parents; wife Polly Nelson, whom he married in 2016; son Case Nieboer, a student at the University of Chicago; sister Julie Nygaard (Ken) of Ridgefield WA; brother Gary Nieboer (Heidi) of Salt Lake City, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held in Nashville at Vanderbilt University Benton Chapel May 1. A celebration of life service will be held in the Flathead Valley this summer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
