Glacier considering historic bathroom upgrades

Glacier National Park is seeking public comments regarding a proposal to remove and replace a restroom at Apgar Campground and improve three others.

The project is in response to increasing visitor use, but would result in an adverse impact to historic resources, requiring the park to conduct a public scoping process before deciding whether to move forward. The comment period ends May 26.

The “comfort station” for Apgar Campground’s Loop B has been out of service for more than 20 years and would be replaced with a double-vault toilet.

Additional facilities on loops A, C and D, and the surrounding walkways, would be rehabilitated to provide accessibility for persons with disabilities.

The comfort station on Loop C would also receive a shower addition.

For more information on the project, visit parkplanning.nps.gov/projectHome.cfm?projectID=71568.

Comments can be made directly through the website or can be submitted to: Superintendent, Glacier National Park; Attn: Apgar Campground Improvements; P.O. Box 128; West Glacier, MT 59936.
