Erin McHugh had a strong outing in the circle and Anna Schrade provided the big hit for Glacier in a 2-1 nonconference softball victory over Columbia Falls on Monday afternoon at Glacier High School.

Schrade hit a walk-off triple to right field in the bottom of the seventh inning to win it.

Sophie Smith, who walked, and Meg Hornby, who singled, scored the tying and winning runs for the Wolfpack.

“It was a great game,” Glacier coach Andy Fors said. “Came down to the very last inning and the very at last at-bat.”

McHugh allowed eight hits, walked two and struck out a season-high seven batters.

“She threw a phenomenal game for us in the circle,” Fors said.

“She was very effective using her change-up to keep hitters off-blance, and to keep a good hitting team like Columbia Falls to one run is a credit to her pitching.”

KJ Schweikert had an impressive outing in the circle for Columbia Falls as well. She held Glacier to five hits, fanned six batters and walked four.

“We’re learning what it takes to get wins and showing resiliency,” Fors said. “We struggled to hit the ball, but hung in there and got the big one when it counted.”

Peyton Kehr and Schweikert both went 2 for 4 and doubled. Hannah Freeman and Trista Cowan had the other doubles for Columbia Falls.

Addie Labrum doubled for Glacier.

Glacier (5-13 overall) is back in action today at home versus Frenchtown. Varsity action begins at 5 p.m.

Columbia Falls is at the Butte Invitational Friday and Saturday.
