FFA students do well in state competition

Kalispell FFA excelled at state recently, with a veterinary science team taking first place. The win qualifies the team to represent Montana at the National FFA Convention and Expo in Indiana this fall.

The Kalispell team competed against 31 teams from around the state. Students had to demonstrate how to administer ear medication and subcutaneous injections, in addition to surgical-site preparation and written tests.

Individually, Cassidy Wiley placed first, Megan Levanen third, Krystal Sutton fourth and Skyler Farnes 15th.

The Kalispell FFA horse evaluation team took second place at state, competing against 30 teams. In this event students were asked to evaluate and select horses based on body structure as well as performance.

Individually, Avery Olsen placed sixth, Maddie Sutton 14th, Matthew Glimm 19th and Morgan Kelly 20th.

Kalispell FFA also had a team compete in forestry, placing fifth. In this event students had to identify trees and forestry tools, read maps and compasses among other requirements. Individually, Mabry Shepard placed 19th, Nick Haas, 23rd, Hunter Lyles, 34th and Dawson Massy 35th.
