Glacier junior Annie Hill made her goal for this weekend, breaking her own Western AA meet record on a fast day at Legends Stadium.

The Wolfpack phenom ran the 800 meters in 2:08.69 to set a new divisional record and personal best.

“I had a plan,” Hill said. “I wanted a really good first lap. I got to the line I was pretty fast. All I had to do was run a 66 (seconds) and I’ll be there. It was fun.

“I kept tensing up, I had to focus on my form and make it to the finish line.”

The Glacier girls are in second place after the first day.

Nikki Krueger won the shot put with a throw of 41 feet, 3/4 inches to help the Wolfpack to 61 points.

The Glacier boys lead the team race after the first round with three wins out of the nine events to run finals.

Wolfpack senior Tadan Gilman won the javelin with a throw of 181-0. He also finished second in shot put.

Hunter Nicholson won the long jump with a leap of 21-7 1/2 and the boys 4x100 relay team won in 42.26 seconds, the fastest time in the state this season.

Flathead is in second place, just 13 points back of the Wolfpack.

Braves junior Chad Hemsley set his own personal best in the 300 hurdles, winning the event in 39.55 seconds, the best time in Class AA this season.

“(My goal was) to go sub-40,” Hemsley said.

“It wasn’t too clean but not bad.”

Braves senior Micah Bucy set a personal best in the high jump, clearing 6 feet, 7 inches before just missing on 6-9 and finishing second. Helena freshman Trey Tintinger won by clearing 6-9 on his final attempt and just missed on three tries at a meet record 7-1/2.

“It was satisfying,” Bucy said. “I’ve been working on that all season. I got 6-5 in Helena and almost got 6-7. I’ll try to get 6-9 next week. Train all week, go jump.”

The meet concludes today beginning at 11:30 a.m. with the 110- and 100-meter hurdles finals. The top six finishers in every event earn an automatic bid into the state tournament if they hadn’t already met a qualifying mark earlier in the season.
