American Legion Baseball Lakers AA, A Canadian Days champions
The Kalispell Lakers AA and A American Legion baseball teams captured team titles at the Canadian Days Tournament on Sunday at Griffin Field.
It was the first Canadian Days title for the AA team since 2014.
The Lakers A won it two years ago.
This event was rained out on the final day last year.
Both Kalispell teams were 3-1 in tournament play, losing on Friday, but rebounding to win three straight.
Lakers AA 6, Redbirds AA 0
Brady Peiffer turned in a stellar effort on the mound for Kalispell, tossing a 3-hitter.
“Today he was amazing,” Lakers AA coach Ryan Malmin said.
“He threw strikes, threw 79 pitches.
“He was one of the key guys who struggled Friday night (in a 7-6 loss to the Spokane Northstars),” Malmin added.
“But he bounced back with a shut-down performance today. He learned to refocus and got better. I’m proud of him and the team’s effort.”
Kalispell had five hits by five different players, but they were timely. Sam Elliott had two RBIs.
“I thought we played great baseball except for those three innings (the last inning of three tournament games when the Lakers allowed 13 runs),” Malmin said. “We found a way to finish today.
“I’m happy with the kids,” he continued. “We continue to see glimpses of greatness in this group.”
In 22 innings of other tournament play, Kalispell allowed just one run.
Kalispell (9-5 overall) plays a single nine-inning nonconference game in Libby on Wednesday starting at 6 p.m.
The Lakers AA and Glacier Twins A will play a three-game Memorial Weekend Series starting Saturday with a single game at 7 p.m. at Griffin Field.
Game 2 is Sunday at 7 p.m. in Whitefish.
Then it’s back to Griffin Field on Monday for the finale starting at 2 p.m.

Logan Siblerud and Taylor Morton combined on a no-hitter as the Lakers romped in the finale.
Siblerud pitched six innings. He walked two batters and struck out six.
“His pitch count went high,” Lakers A coach Jesse McFarland said
“We had to make a change.”
Siblerud is now 3-0 on the season.
“He was great,” McFarland said of his mound ace.
“The defense played solid. Offensively we were hitting the ball all weekend, going at people. The kids were patient (at the plate) and continued to hit the ball hard and found some open spots.”
The bottom of the batting order provided nine of the team’s 17 hits.
Ryan McDonald and Evan Todd were both 3 for 5. McDonald doubled and Todd ripped a triple.
Grant Marsh went 2 for 3.
Morton’s bat powered the Lakers offense as he had two hits — a double and a triple — and drove in five runs.
Nate Vanderbeek, 1 for 4, had two RBIs along with McDonald.
Ten players had hits for Kalispell.
“That’s been the biggest challenge so far, figuring out where everyone goes in the lineup,” McFarland said.
“Because 1 through 9 (the batting order) hit the ball well, finding a spot for everyone is difficult.”
The Lakers (7-4) have a three-game Memorial Weekend Series with the Glacier Twins B starting Saturday with a 4 p.m. nine-inning game at Griffin Field.
Game 2 is Sunday at 4 p.m. in Whitefish.
The series ends Monday at Griffin Field with an 11 a.m. start.

post 3-1 mark on road trip
BOZEMAN — Glacier Twins A wrapped up a busy weekend with a pair of victories for a 3-1 mark over two days of play.
Coby Clark-Dickenson, who went 5 for 5, doubled in the fifth inning, homered in the third and scored five times as the Twins whipped Lewistown A 18-5 in the finale on Sunday.
Glacier banged out 23 hits with eight players have at least one single.
Ryan Veneman, Tom Hellwig and Dan Seymour were all 3 for 5, Quintin Schriver had three hits in three plate appearances and Gunnar Marsh went 3 for 4.
Hellwig, Schriver and Seymour all doubled once.
Schriver and Seymour both had four RBIs.
The Twins scored in every inning.
Earlier in the day, Glacier used back-to-back three-run innings in the fifth and sixth to pull away from the Bozeman Bucks A for an 8-4 victory.
Greyson Bistodeau and Hellwig had two hits each. Gunner Marsh doubled for the Twins and Hellwig belted a triple.
Clark-Dickenson, Hellwig and Marsh had two RBIs each.
On Saturday, the Bozeman Bucks AA (15-3) used a 6-run fifth inning to claim an 8-0 victory. Glacier started that day by besting the Bitterroot Bucs A 8-2.
Clark-Dickenson had two hits against Bozeman. James Sampson-Keck and Seymour both doubled.
Terek Bistodeau and Clark-Dickenson had two hits each versus Bitterroot. Doubling were Greyson Bistodeau, Terek Bistodeau, Clark-Dickenson and Seymour.
The Twins (4-3) have a three-game Memorial Weekend Series with the Kalispell Lakers AA starting Saturday with a 7 p.m. nine-inning game at Griffin Field.
Game 2 is Sunday at 7 p.m. in Whitefish.
