FHS will soon embark on new era

| May 25, 2017 4:00 AM

Students across the valley are getting ready to celebrate the end of the school year, but the Flathead High School staff is preparing for a new beginning.

Current Flathead High School Principal Peter Fusaro’s contract ends June 30. Fusaro has accepted a position at Flathead Valley Community College after serving in various positions at Flathead High School for 20 years — 11 of those years in the role of principal.

The next principal will have some large, impressive shoes to fill, and will be stepping right into the action as the school prepares for a $19.3 million renovation project.

Finalists are being interviewed today to fill the principal position at the school, and this evening the public will have the opportunity to meet the candidates.

A 4 p.m. meet-and-greet event is planned in the second floor of Flathead’s library to introduce the principal candidates to the public. Candidates will give brief introductions, followed by a Q&A session. The event will provide the chance for people to fill out feedback forms as well.

Our local students and staff deserve a strong leader and advocate, and this is a key opportunity for the public to be involved in the process of choosing the best person to fill that role as the next principal for Flathead High School.

Congratulations, Loggers!

Congratulations to the Libby Loggers, winners of back-to-back boys tennis state championships.

The Loggers secured the Class B trophy — their second in school history — in pure team fashion. Despite having no individual or doubles winners, Libby racked up 29 team points to edge out runners-up Missoula Loyola Sacred Heart and Great Falls Central.

Libby qualified two in singles and two doubles teams for state. All six players are seniors.

What a great way for these young men to cap their prep athletic careers.
