Libby 2nd in B-C softball

FRENCHTOWN — Libby closed out a two-year stay in Class B by finishing second at the Class B-C state softball tournament on Saturday.

The Loggers, who will return to Class A for the next school year, scored first and held a 3-2 lead after four innings before Florence battled back to claim the title with a 9-3 victory.

Florence scored three times in the fifth and seventh innings and added a run in the sixth.

Libby advanced to the championship game of the double-elimination tournament by ousting Mission 5-2 earlier in the day in loser-out play.

Jayden Winslow and Alyssa Marshall had two hits each for Libby. Marshall doubled once.

Florence’s Natalie Dulac went 4 for 5, hit three doubles and drove in four runs.

Florence edged Libby on Friday in semifinal play 1-0.

SIDNEY —Brynn Leishman tossed a 2-hitter and Belgrade used a pair of three-run innings to top Frenchtown 6-1 in the championship game.

Belgrade did all of its scoring in the second and sixth innings.

Presley Jacobsen, 3 for 3, drove in two runs for the champs. Haylee Curry also went 3 for 3.

Frenchtown advanced through loser-out play to challenge for the title, beating Hamilton 11-7 and Polson 12-2 on the final day.

GREAT FALLS — In an all-Electric City finale, Great Falls C.M. Russell rode the pitching of Erin Hocker and RBIs by Savanna Voyles and Kayci Edwards for a 3-0 victory over rival Great Falls High in the championship game.

CMR’s Tristin Achenbach tossed a 1-hitter while Erin Hocker allowed just four hits in the circle for Great Falls.

McKenzie Staats doubled for Great Falls and Edwards doubled for the victors.
