'Dessert Theatre'
The Eureka Community Players are trying something new: the first weekend of November they will perform the first “Dessert Theatre,” a night of improvisation, laughter, fairy tales, creativity and delicious pie.
The evening will begin with some improvisational games that call on audience participation and demand quick thinking from a team of entertaining actors, including Sam Barrett, Andy Hanson, Adrian Miller, Sylvia Moeller, Katy Tullis and Morgen Reynolds.
To give the audience time to recover from all that laughing, a break will follow with live music and homemade pies. After the dessert is cleared away, the Players will perform the fast-paced comedy “Grimm Brothers Spectaculathon” by Dan Zolidis. Joining the improv team will be Matthew Tullis and Lucretia Reynolds.
In “Grimm Brothers Spectaculathon,” two narrators attempt to recreate all 209 of the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm in a wild, fast-paced extravaganza. To make it more difficult, they attempt to combine them into one gigantic fable using “Rapunzel,” “Rumpelstiltskin,” “Hansen and Gretel,” “Snow White,” Sleeping Beauty,” “Cinderella” and other more obscure stories like “Lean Lisa” and “The Devil’s Grandmother.” This one-act play is directed by Morgen Reynolds.
“Dessert Theatre” performances begin at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 3 and 4, followed by a 3 p.m. matinee on Sunday, Nov. 5. All performances are on the stage at the Eureka Community Hall / LodgeCraft building, above the Town Pump in Eureka. Tickets are available at the door. Seating is limited so come early and be ready to laugh with the whole family.
