'Charleston!'

| November 9, 2017 12:50 PM

The Roaring ’20s, complete with flappers and jazz cats, gangsters and Ziegfeld girls, are coming to Somers Middle School at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10 and 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11.

In its inaugural season, Somers Middle School Drama presents “Charleston!,” a musical comedy with plenty of 1920s flourishes. Young flapper Polly Pepper (Kadence Johnson) exudes charisma and perky wanderlust, and her 18th birthday celebration is the talk of the town. For the occasion, her socialite aunt, Augusta Granville (Isabella Parrott), plans to pass on the family’s most prized possession, a fabulous diamond necklace nicknamed “The Ice Garden.” However, a crew of gangsters (Annelise Mason, Elliot Brown, Olivia Rivera, and Jordan Shallcross) plot to lift the necklace, while a phony Duke and Duchess (Ian Lawson-Sanderlin and Bethany Nairn) devise their own get-rich-quick scheme.

Combining fifth-, sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-graders, the cast brings upbeat energy to the show’s song and dance numbers.

Tickets are $5, available in advance at Somers Middle School and Lakeside Elementary front offices. Both performances will be given at Somers Middle School in the gym, 315 School Addition Road, Somers.
