Montana Film Festival Road Show presents 'Walking Out'

The Museum at Central School will host a one-night screening of the Montana Film Festival Roadshow’s Montana-made, critically acclaimed feature film “Walking Out,” at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10.

In the new feature by Missoula brothers Alex and Andrew J. Smith and based on writer David Quammen’s short story (1980), “Walking Out” is the story of estranged father and son forced to rely on one another to survive an unforgiving wilderness in a riveting thriller. Once a year, 14-year-old David (Josh Wiggins) travels from his mother’s home in Texas to visit his loner father, Cal (Matt Bomer), in the remote mountains of Montana. There, the two embark on their annual hunting excursion, during which the taciturn Cal attempts to connect with his smartphone-addicted son. But when a terrifying turn of events leaves Cal critically wounded, it’s up to the teenage David to summon enough strength for both of them.

Infused with a deep reverence for the rugged beauty and harsh realities of the Montana landscape, “Walking Out” is both a tense survival saga and a disarmingly moving father-son tale — a story of connection, primal knowledge and the true path to adulthood starring Bomer, Wiggins, Bill Pullman, Lily Gladstone and Alex Neuestadter.

The film is rated PG-13, with a 1-hour, 37-minute run time.

“Walking Out” will be screened at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, at the Museum at Central School, 124 Second Ave. E., Kalispell.

Tickets are $10 and will only be available at the Museum at Central School the day of the film. Wine, beer, pop and water will be available for purchase. Seating is provided, but film fans can bring their own floor pillows, portable chairs, or whatever is comfortable for viewing the film.
