Katherine Padgett Naive, 84

| November 19, 2017 4:00 AM

Katherine Padgett Naive, 84, died at home Nov. 12, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.

Kathy began her life in Ottawa Hills, Ohio, and at age 14 moved with her family to La Jolla, California. She attended Occidental College and received her Master of Arts degree from Stanford University.

In her marriage to Joel A. Naive, they begat three children, and an electronics test equipment company, Wavetek. She was the supportive force behind the success of this innovative enterprise.

She and Joel moved to Bigfork where she became an avid native plant gardener and advocate. Kathy designed and knit beautiful Aran cabled sweaters, socks and extraordinary children’s clothing. She energetically supported her eldest daughter in her various business ventures. She was a wonderful Katy (Don’t ever call her grandma) to Vanessa, Jemison and Connor.

Many were enriched by her wry wit (no doubt attributable to her Wit heritage), intelligence, vast knowledge, and keen interest in political affairs.

Her true acceptance of others gave many a connection that will be missed. Her exceptional parenting was deeply appreciated by Greg, Mary Jo and Jill, who adored her. She was longtime friend of Bill and Lois Wilson, and lived one day at a time.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Montana Native Plant Society, P.O. Box 8783 Missoula, MT 59807.

A celebration of her life will be held in the spring when the wildflowers bloom.
