MISSOULA (AP) — Bob Stitt is out as Montana’s football coach after three seasons.
Athletics director Kent Haslam said Monday he’s not renewing Stitt’s contract for the 2018 season. His contract expires in January.
Haslam said it was a difficult decision and that he appreciates Stitt’s contributions to the university and its football team.
The announcement comes two days after Montana’s second consecutive loss to rival Montana State and after the team missed the playoffs for the second straight year.
Stitt’s teams have compiled a 21-14 record in three seasons.
Haslam plans a news conference at 4 p.m. Monday to discuss the decision.
