Purdy garners all-Big Sky Conference honors

Glacier alumnus and Montana kicker Brandon Purdy was selected to the all-Big Sky Conference third team by the league’s 13 coaches.

Purdy, a redshirt sophomore, connected on 15-of-17 field-goal attempts with a long of 47 yards and made 44-of-47 extra-point tries. His field-goal percentage of 88.2 was the best in the Big Sky Conference.

A 2015 grad, Purdy was an all-state kicker his senior year for the Wolfpack’s state champion football team, the first in its history. He also lettered in soccer four times.

Purdy is one of eight all-conference picks for the Griz. Offensive tackle David Reese was the lone first-team selection.

Montana State placed four players on the all-conference team with one first-team pick in linebacker Mac Bignell.

Troy Andersen, a Dillon alum who plays running back and linebacker for the Bobcats, garnered Freshman of the Year honors after rushing for 515 yards, scoring six total touchdowns and tallying nine tackles and a sack.

Frontier Conference

Montana Western wide receiver George Sherwood, a 2012 Flathead grad, was named to the all-Frontier Conference second team by the league’s coaches.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound wideout finished a tumultuous career on a high note, grabbing 38 receptions for 731 yards in his sixth season of eligibility. He led Montana Western with 19.2 yards per catch.

Sherwood was also selected to the all-conference second team on special teams.

Montana Tech led all Montana teams with 10 all-Frontier selections. Carroll College and Rocky Mountain College tallied eight apiece, Montana Western totaled seven and Montana State-Northern had zero.
