Sentinel girls hand Wolfpack first loss

MISSOULA — Missoula Sentinel built a 4-0 lead to hand the Glacier girls soccer team its first loss this season in a 4-2 Western AA conference victory on Tuesday.

The Spartans (3-3-3) got a pair of second half goals from senior Grace Stayner to build a massive lead, then held off a late rally from Glacier (6-1-1), who scored twice in the last minute.

Wolfpack freshman Taylor Brisendine scored a goal in the 79th minute and assited on a goal to Micah Hickethier in the 80th to get Glacier on the board.

Columbia Falls 8, Bigfork 1

COLUMBIA FALLS — Hannah Gedlaman scored three of her five goals in a four-minute span near the end of the first half to give Columbia Falls a comfortable lead in a rout of Bigfork on Tuesday night.

The Wildkats put a staggering 42 shots on goal but struggled to convert its opportunities early, according to Columbia Falls head coach O’Brien Byrd.

Gedlaman netted her final goal in the 47th minute, one that placed her second in the state in goals scored this year, just two behind Billings Central’s Zoie Althoff.

Hannah Callender, Josie Windauer and Macey Sandefer also scored for Columbia Falls.

POLSON — Marina Mayorga scored a pair of goals, lifting Polson to a Northern A conference win over Libby.

Mayorga scored in the 8th and 68th minutes as keeper Megan Rost and the Pirates defense kept a clean sheet in the win.

The Whitefish junior varsity snuck in a goal in the final minute to edge Stillwater Christian in a nonconfernce game.

Anna Cook scored in the 80th minute to complete a two-goal rally from the Bulldogs in the final 16 minutes. Whitefish started the run with an own goal and outshot Stillwater 15-6.

Lulu Neumann scored on a free kick in the 54th minute to give Stillwater a lead midway through the second half.

MISSOULA — Glacier rolled over Sentinel giving itself a boost towards the top half of the Western AA conference.

Wolfpack senior Rohit Tappeta started the scoring a minute before halftime and senior Brady Scultz scored two minutes after the break to start the rout. Dyllyn Stabler and Conner Heil also scored as Tappeta added another to give Glacier (4-1-3) a four-point lead on Sentinel (3-4-2) in the standings.

COLUMBIA FALLS — Bigfork struck early, but Columbia Falls outlasted the Vikings on Tuesday night as the home team honored its seniors.

Jakob Grein equalized Alex Buenz’s early goal just before the half for a 1-1 tie at intermission.

Auguste Emond scored twice in the second half — the second goal put Columbia Falls up for good — and Alex Garate padded the Wildcats’ lead in the 58th minute.
